ANNIVERSARY AND WEDDING PLATES Redware Plate Page Wedding and anniversary plates have been traditional gifts created by potters in eastern Pennsylvania to "document" and celebrate these important family events. There are two kinds of plates we make -- high-fired stoneware on a separate page and traditional redware shown here. Included are the names of bride and groom and wedding date. For anniversary plates, husband and wife are named with the number of years married and possibly the wedding date. Ordinarily the first names only are placed on a plate unless the last name is requested. Two basic designs offered are the traditional "Tree of Life" and also one I call "Abundance." Slight design variations may occur as these are hand-painted. There are two texts to choose from -- pictured in the examples. |
